About
Jonathan
I approach therapy from the perspective that client feedback and needs are important in determining a good treatment plan and building the therapeutic relationship. I am a firm believer that while no one is guaranteed a life free from distress, effectively tailored therapy can offer personal insight, growth, and resilience to address client concerns and future challenges. I encourage clients to actively participate in the process and am comfortable providing both structured exercises as well as open-ended emotional processing, depending on the client’s needs and goals. Throughout my career, I've worked with a wide range of different individuals, ranging from college-age young adults, to elderly clients in residential settings before they transition to life outside the correctional system. What I've learned (and continue to learn) is that some of the most difficult issues for people that most of us will have to face in life are around transitions: a new job or losing a job; a new relationship or a breakup; starting college or moving away; the loss of a family member or close friend; the list goes on. If there is one thing most of the people I've worked with have in common, it's that a transitional phase starts off as a challenge in their life before working together to make it an opportunity for something new or different in their life.
In my free time, I enjoy going on hikes, playing video games, and finding new places to eat (I'll try most places at least once). I'll also usually say "yes" to someone asking me to watch a new movie with them, regardless of whatever film it is (or if I've even heard of it before). I've also been known to be enthusiastic (not skilled) at karaoke.
