About
Robin
I am a 'wounded healer' who spent a long time on the 'couch' myself before becoming a therapist. I found my purpose in helping others regain their inner peace, sense of self-worth, and willingness to dream and build lives worth living. Seeking therapy takes immense courage, and the journey to recovery is hard. I love celebrating every step toward recovery, however seemingly small. I especially enjoy working with people who have complex mental health challenges, including many who have found prior treatment unsatisfying or ineffective. As a gender-diverse woman who completed transitioning over three decades ago, I am especially proud to work with LGBTQ+ people who struggle with the weight of oppression, discrimination, rejection, and relationship challenges. As one who wrote a blank check to the U.S. military, I also feel a deep sense of warmth and honor in working with others who have served their country, recovering from the weight, pain, and rage of military trauma, post-deployment reintegration, and relationship difficulties. I am unabashedly 'real': I intersperse irreverent humor to alleviate some of the stress of therapeutic work, and most of my clients tell me that therapy with me feels like talking with a friend. I am relatively casual and 'chill.' I assign homework because growth does not come from merely talking or spending time with a therapist, and most of therapeutic growth occurs in the 167 hours outside the time in therapy. I am also strongly committed to evidence-based treatments to maximize the results of the work you put into your recovery.
In my time outside of seeing clients, I volunteer for the disaster mental health team for the American Red Cross and head up a nonprofit charity that provides services to clients who cannot afford therapy or who face other barriers to care. I am a nerd who enjoys doing academic research and going to school. (I will earn my Doctor of Social Work on August 15 and complete my fifth Master's degree in December.) I love playing with my two kitties, Zenith and Minnie (both neutered adoptees), and watching streaming programs on television, usually one show at a time from the first episode through to the end. I adore time with friends, going to movies and eating out.
