About
Miriam
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 13 years working with children, teens, and adults from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I work with concerns including trauma, anxiety, relationships, life transitions, identity, women’s and men’s issues, and the emotional impact of chronic health challenges.
My approach is integrative and individualized. I draw from EMDR, somatic approaches, mindfulness, CBT, psychodynamic therapy, Jungian psychology, and transpersonal psychology, tailoring the work to each person rather than relying on a single therapeutic model.
My professional background extends beyond psychotherapy and includes business, public health, nutrition, and anthropology. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the many factors that influence well-being, including relationships, environment, culture, work, physical health, and life circumstances. They inform my clinical perspective while psychotherapy remains at the center of my work.
My interest in chronic health and mind-body concerns is also informed by personal experience navigating significant health and mental health challenges and experiencing treatment from the client’s perspective. This has given me a deeper appreciation for how vulnerable it can feel to navigate complex systems, feel misunderstood, or feel defined by a diagnosis. It has strengthened my commitment to seeing the whole person and creating space for the complexity of each individual’s experience.
I believe that beneath our differences in background, culture, gender, identity, and life experience, there is a fundamental human connection we all share. I approach each client with curiosity and respect, without making assumptions about who they are or what their experience should look like.
My style is warm, straightforward, collaborative, and genuine. I value thoughtful conversation, humor, creativity, and the ability to be both compassionate and direct when it is helpful. I want therapy to feel like a meaningful human connection—not simply an exercise in clinical terminology.
Ultimately, my goal is to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, work through difficult experiences and patterns, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and meaningful to them.
Outside of therapy, I’m happiest when I’m exploring something creative, discovering new places, or connecting with the local community. I’m a lifelong music lover and a bit of a metalhead, but my musical tastes are eclectic. I enjoy live music of all kinds, from metal and rock to world music, as well as festivals, open mic nights, singing circles, and local music events. I also enjoy dancing and am looking forward to learning to play guitar myself.
I enjoy museums, art and cultural exhibits—especially Egyptian and Asian art—as well as farmers markets, road trips, and exploring interesting places and communities. I also enjoy attending LGBTQ+ events and supporting LGBTQ+ community spaces and celebrations. While I’m not personally part of the LGBTQ+ community, I value being an ally and enjoy being part of inclusive, welcoming environments.
Meditation and mindfulness are also meaningful parts of my life, and I enjoy experiences that allow me to slow down, be creative, learn something new, and connect with other people.
I’m naturally curious and love discovering the unexpected—whether that’s finding a great local musician, stumbling upon an interesting exhibit, taking an unplanned road trip, or simply having a good conversation with someone new.
