Maureen
Hi, I am Dr. Maureen Sweeney. I love my job. I specialize in aging issues. In fact, about 25 years ago I completed a Post-Doctoral Training Program in Geriatric Psychology. I take a biopsychosocial approach to the aging process. I believe with an accurate understanding of the aging process that we can all strive to live a more intentional and better quality of life with each decade of life that we live. When talking with clients I often discuss changing relationships, changing life responsibilities, some of the strains of being a caregiver for an aging family member, changes that come with new medical concerns and changing physical abilities, and grieving the losses that can sometimes present during the aging process. I use a relaxed Cognitive Behavioral approach to Psychotherapy related to reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety that can sometimes come with unexpected events related to aging issues.
When not at work, I keep active. I enjoy weekend road trips to various cities to attend concerts and to sometimes run half marathons while I am visiting a new city. I love nature, camping and hiking with my puppy. I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family. And most importantly, I love the challenge of learning how to sometimes make slight adjustments in my life related to my own aging process so that I can be intentional every day in seeking to live my best life each day.
