About
Berenice
Hi, my name is Berenice! I bring warmth, honesty, and curiosity into the room, and I take an active role in helping clients make sense of what they are feeling, where it comes from, and how it continues to affect them. As a BIPOC woman, I understand how tiring it can be to enter a space and wonder how much of your culture, family, or lived experience you will have to explain before you can get to what is actually hurting. I work with BIPOC women who are tired of being perfect, responsible, and okay for everyone else. In sessions, I listen for what may be underneath the immediate problem, ask questions that help clients connect the present to earlier experiences, and slow things down when they begin minimizing their feelings or pushing past what hurts. Together, we look at how family roles, culture, trauma, relationships, and survival have shaped the way they respond to stress, care for others, and make room for themselves. I help clients put language to experiences they may have carried quietly, understand their emotional and body responses with less shame, and practice boundaries, emotional regulation, and new ways of responding that feel realistic for their lives.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my two cats, Mac and Cheese, listening to audiobooks, and watching true crime documentaries. I am also trying to learn how to play mahjong, although I am definitely still a beginner. I love going out to eat with family and friends, trying new food trucks, and finding good Cajun food. I am proudly Latina, come from a multiethnic family, and was raised in East Los Angeles and South Central Los Angeles. I am also drawn to curanderismo and ancestral, holistic approaches that honor the connection between the mind, body, culture, and community.
